How long has Toastmasters been in existence?
Toastmasters has been in existence since 1924 and has grown to nearly 250,000 members in more than 12,500 clubs in 106 countries.
How does Toastmasters help me improve my speaking skills?
Toastmasters helps you improve your speaking skills as you work from the Competent Communication manual, a series of 10 self-paced speaking assignments designed to instill a basic foundation in public speaking. Participants learn skills related to use of humor, gestures, eye contact, speech organization and overall delivery. When finished with this manual, members can choose from 15 advanced manuals to learn skills related to specific interests.
How does Toastmasters help me improve my leadership skills?
Toastmasters helps you improve leadership skills as you take on various meeting roles and serve as an officer at the club and district levels, and by working in the Competent Leadership manual and the High Performance Leadership program. In our learn-by-doing approach, we don't lecture our members about leadership skills; we give them responsibilities and ask them to lead.

How often can I visit a club before I decide to join?
You can visit as often as you like. When you're ready, submit your application to the club's VP Membership and receive your workbooks to begin speaking.
Will I be expected to speak at my first club visit?
We do not force anyone to speak. However, all clubs acknowledge guests at each meeting and some ask that you state your name and how you found out about Toastmasters.
Can I join at my first meeting?
Absolutely! You can join as soon as you are ready to make the commitment.
How much are dues?
Membership is affordable:
- $20 new member fee
- $27 dues every six months
- Dues may vary based on a variety of factors.
How often are dues paid?
Dues are paid semiannually in April and October.
How soon after joining can I present my first speech?
You can present your first speech as soon as you are ready and as soon as the club calendar allows.
